Dancer (Bug)
Eight years may not seem like a long time, but Dancer became a part of our family when our life was changing and very high stressors constantly. I had suddenly left my children’s dad and was now a single parent. Through therapy and counseling I learned more about their father than I thought and my children felt unsafe. My daughter saw Dancer on The Lafayette Animal Shelter website or Facebook and when we saw her we immediately knew she was ours. It was right at the time of my daughter’s birthday and Christmas. We kept the name Dancer from the shelter because it was unique. Dancer ran sideways and had a weird bump on her head, but she provided unconditional love to my children. Dancer gave them a sense of safety, knowing that she would protect them no matter what. Many people were intimidated by Dancer. However, this big baby once cared for a batch of baby chicks like she was their mama. Our beloved Dancer Bug would sit and watch anything we told her to. That’s how loyal and dependable she was. She cared for some baby ducks, she loved every kitten we ever brought home, but she never acclimated to the stray cats that don’t live with us.
Now, Dancer could be taught to do anything. There’s one special ability she learned that we didn’t teach her. Four years ago I began to suddenly have PNES seizures. I would have so many seizures that I could no longer work. Dancer somehow learned how to detect when I was going to have a seizure. I knew when to get to a safe place and she would lay her body across mine.
Dancer was a gentle girl, who only wanted to be loved. She is forever in our hearts and we love her so much.
