Shaggy was adopted from a rural animal shelter in Abbeville, LA. He was listed on the euthanasia list and when his mom, Rachel, saw his photo up for adoption, she rushed from Austin, TX to scoop him up. It was love at first sight and snuggle. Shaggy lived the good life in Austin for 12 years and went everywhere with his mom. Hikes, bars, restaurants, and even wineries. He did it all and was always the star of the show. Everyone that met him loved him and remembered him. He’s considered a miracle dog because he beat so many odds against him; he had IVDD, cushings disease, congestive heart failure, and beginning stages of kidney failure. He had a couple of bouts of pancreatitis that landed him in the hospital twice. Shags even had his gallbladder removed despite the statistics on such a risky surgery. He always bounced back and was one tough Cajun pup. In his last year and a half of life, he and his mom moved back to Lafayette, LA and lived a relaxed life in Cajun country. He was such a quirky and lovable pup that had a strong presence anywhere he went. Shaggy loved the cold weather, gourmet meals, spa music, and baths! He was a bougie pup that liked the finer things in life. He’s also well traveled and has been to more places than some people and he has pics to prove it! During his last few months, he really started to decline and slow down. After many trips to the vet and trying different medications, it all became too much for his little body. Shaggy was tired and his heart couldn’t keep up with his lifestyle anymore. He is a success story for a dog with CHF as he lived with that awful disease for 4 years. On October 12, 2024 at 4:50 pm, Shaggy took his last breath. His mom thought he would for sure pull through like he always does but it was time for him to cross that rainbow bridge to be free from the struggle to breath and not cough anymore. He’s still a miracle dog because he proved how strong a street pup could be after all these years. Shaggy will forever be remembered for his sweet demeanor, bright smile, and of course his shaggy dog fur. May he rest in peace.
