Sadie came into our lives in 2009, picked up at a gas station in Abbeville from a woman who could no longer keep her. She was two years old then, and from that moment on, she became ours in every way that mattered.

She had a favorite toy — a bone that said “Good Dog.” It fit her perfectly, because she truly was a good dog. Sadie was always ready with sweet kisses and snuggles, offering comfort and love without ever being asked.

She had an incredible gift for recognizing the sounds of our family’s and friends’ vehicles. If Sadie barked, we knew right away — that was a stranger. She took her role as protector very seriously. She was also the nosiest neighbor you could imagine. One of her favorite pastimes was peeking through the fence into nearby yards and barking in protest — how dare they enjoy their own backyard without her permission.

Sadie would happily accept any food or treat offered to her. And if she didn’t care for it, she would quietly hide it away, as if sparing your feelings. That was Sadie — kind, gentle, and thoughtful in her own way.

She has been with our family through so many milestones: moves, trips, graduations, weddings, and countless everyday moments that became special simply because she was there. For sixteen years, she gave us unconditional love, loyalty, and joy.

Recently, Sadie celebrated her 18th birthday. Even as a senior, she still loved to play and had so much spunk — a reminder that her spirit never aged.

Sadie wasn’t just a dog. She was family. And the love she gave us will stay with us forever.
