In June of 2010, I made the trip to my local Petsmart to adopt a cat. When I walked into the kennel area, my Agnes was in a cage with one of her littermates, Elmer. When I saw her and walked up to the door of the kennel, Agnes rushed to meet me, stepping all over her brother, Elmer. When the kennel door was opened, I immediately picked her up and she put her two little front paws on my chest as she began rubbing her face on my face. There just so happened to be a volunteer there and she called the lady who was fostering Agnes and Elmer at the time. I remember her telling that lady, “I think we have a love affair here!” and I was hers and she was mine from that point forward. I named her Agnes specifically because my grandfather’s name was Elmer and my grandmother’s name, Agnes. I couldn’t think of a better name for my precious baby angel. Over the last 14.5 years, Agnes and I have been through so much and she was always there, unconditionally, to let me know she loved me. These last few days have been so difficult, but I know that my Agnes has her wings and is waiting for me on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.
