Mellie was the best unexpected gift that came when I didn’t think I needed a companion. I was driving home from work on a regular day when I saw mellie laying by the stop sign at the beginning of our dead end road in Texas. Something told me to stop as much as I tried to resist i just couldn’t. I pulled over and walked up to Mellie and we locked eyes and that was it I knew I had to bring her home and give her the best life I possibly could. Once I got home and got a better look at her I realized she was shot by a pellet gun on the right side of her butt by her tail. Luckily the pellet didn’t penetrant deep enough to damage muscle so I dug it out and slowly rehabed her and within 2 months she was up and walking around and becoming more playful. She ran the entire 26 arces day in and day out plying with the cows as well as her humans as we like to call ourselves. In February 2025 we moved here to New Iberia where she made more friends and loved running though the house chasing children and other dogs. She became pregnant a month or so before the move but that never stopped her from being the same active dog she was. Unfortunately she met her ending when she went into labor and quickly got an infection which affected the puppies. She will forever be loved and missed ❤️
