China

Sweet China was adopted as a six-month old kitten on 12/21/2013 from St. Martin Humane Society by her human mom. China and her human Mom had an incredible bond from the start as her Mom was just learning to navigate adult life with China by her side. The best part of her Mom’s day was coming home to China every afternoon as China was always by the door waiting. China was by her Mom’s side through moves, marriage to China’s human Dad, and everything else life brought their way.

China was a gentle soul and loved to snuggle, especially with her Mom and Dad. She never met a stranger and was affectionate and social with anyone she met, even on her many trips to the vet’s office during her years of health challenges. China had the most soothing purr and sassy meow. She was a very talkative girl so it was never lonely with China around. She would often greet people at the door with a happy trot and an excited “rattle tail”. Every day (but especially in the mornings), China gave the best “head boops” as her way of saying “hi”. During the day, you could often find China napping in cat beds in sunny windows. Her Mom was pretty sure that China brought the sunshine most days.

China had to try out every cardboard box, no matter how big or small. Her favorite toys were ping pong balls and a plush toy on a stick that she had since she was a kitten. She would leave her favorite stick toy everywhere for her Mom and Dad to find. Anytime her Mom or Dad made a circle with their arms, China would come to sit in the middle right away for snuggles. China was the best sibling to her kitty sister, Maureen, and her kitty brother, Klaus. Klaus loved to snuggle with China too.

On the rainiest, stormiest, and saddest day, May 9th, 2025, China got all the snuggles, kisses, and tuna as her Mom and Dad knew it was time to let her go to sleep. It was the most heartbreaking day for her family. China was a fighter until the very end. Her Mom always asked China to live forever, and China surely tried her best. China was such a gift to her family and left a lasting impact. There will forever be a hole in our hearts shaped like China. She was our constant companion through the good times and the hard days. Not a day goes by that China is not in our thoughts and memories. Her family was so lucky to have her. China will be forever missed and loved.
